I think the women of Maycomb should be talked about now and their relationship to Scout should be discussed. First, Miss Maudie. Miss Maudie is a sweet old lady who likes to garden and bake goods for others. She talks politely and is your average kind Maycomb woman. Her relationship to Scout is precious because of the fact that Scout comes to talk to her a lot. She is basically like a grandmother to Scout. She talks to her about problems and bakes her goods. I like Miss Maudie because she really doesn't have a problem with Scout dressing and acting like a boy.
Miss Dubose was sort of like a crochety old woman who didn't care about anyone's problems but her own. If I were Scout, I would have thought she had a demon in her because of the way she acts at the end of Jem's reading. I know she was having health problems, but as a small child there is no other explanation of why she is doing this. The bell is about to ring so there will be more about the Maycomb woman later. What is your opinion on these woman? DO you think that Miss Dubose has something more to her than her rudeness?

Yea, I guess women play am important roll in this book. well, that is all I have to say at the moment, I'll get back to you.
Intersting...all the women (native to Maycomb)in this book seem to have very strong characteristics. It is no wonder that Scout also has a strong personality.
Kaminous the Great--weak post!
Well, everyone has a good and bad side. Most times, when people are rude and intimidating, it's either because they were raised differently in a difficult way, or because they have low-confidence. No one can become stubborn or mean without any reason to be. So, perhaps Miss Dubose is that way because she went through a lot and tries to cover her weakness by placing herself above others.
Oh, and women have always been put under men because they see women weak, but in this book, all women have potentials. Scout plays an important role of being young, but her intelligence and deep thoughts help her make good decisions in some situations.
ROOOOAAARRR! Yes Kaminous, you are correct, women play a major role in this book...we also play a huge roll in the story of life... i mean if it weren't for us, the human population would cease to exist as we know it! That would not be good...and as for Mrs. Dubose, I think that there is a lot more to her than rudness, I mean she might be a little cranky, But she id lonely because she wants Jem read to her. She probably has had some past experiences that she keeps up inside her. She's old....forgive her.
They are all just big ol' country women, from personal experience they have very few personalities. One is that they are nice ladies with kind hearts that will take in any poor soul in need. Two, they are hateful, forceful and just plain rude. It seems that most of the women in this book are the latter but with few exeptions, such as Miss Maudie and a few others. I just don't think that any of the women in Maycomb could be a very good influence on Scout. Most of the women would just try to change her, not that she doesn't need to act more like a girl, but they will crush her own personality.
HaHa! Princess Jasmine pretty much said it! Women do play a large role in the book and also in life. Like princess jasmine said, there would most definately be a decrease in human population if we didn't exist, unless God came up with another plan, but he didn't! Therefore, we do play an important role in life. I must say women do put up with a lot and we don't get the kind of respect or credit we deserve! I mean what games do all of the rowdies go to, the girls basketball games or the guys. Most definately the guy's games. It could be that when women work hard people over look it because we are not boys! Let me tell every guy something: we might not be made to look all muscular like you guys are, but believe me it is there! Oh and just to clear up a controversial issue, Cheerleading is most definately a sport. Just because it doesn't look hard, it truely is. Ask Mallory! It works out parts of your body that guys would cry if they had to do! So until you actually get to experience the fun of cheerleading, don't judge! We really don't like it!
Hahaha...I totally agree with Princess Jasmine and Emily. Emily is 100% correct..girls' sports definately do not get half the recognition that the guys get. To me it doesn't make sense, because in some cases they are working just as hard, doing the same exact sport, and getting no praise for it. For example, its not like our football team is going anywhere fast (no offense I totally respect football players) yet everyone gets so excited and pumped up for what?...A losing season. Yet the volleyball team has a great mostly winning season..or the cheerleaders actually make it to state..they don't get half the recognition. I think our school is really bad about distributing the school spirit evenly among the sports.
Okay just one thing to add I didn't mean to get so off track at the end there haha...my point was just the fact that girls do not receive near the recognition men do. I just thought I should clear that up. :)
Haha Princessebelle&heart! You are also 100% correct. Yup, I agree! You sure did Roar, just like Kaminous the great did! Keep on sister!
haha....Wow thats hillarious.
Females do play a big role in this book. Most of the controversial issues come from the women. For Example, Aunt Alexandria questions why Atticus has to defend a black person.Plus her personality really adds to the story. It gives you a good idea of how people used to think. She also questions why Scout has to act like... well... a boy.
Yeah i agree! Women sports get barely any recognition. I mean barely anyone shows up to Girls Tennis matches...no i take that back....no one shows up to the matches (just our parents.) Actually, i met someone the other day who didnt even know that we had a tennis team.
Oh loopfruit that is extremely saddening! I was definately aware that Branson had a tennis team! I will come to your tennis matches! Oh, but you watch, will anyone else be there because they honestly do not care about women sports! We need to change this immediately. Like today, the girls ran their butt's off in track (not literally) but will anyone ever know that! ( I guess they do now, but that is not the point)! The point is, is that no one would have known until I just wrote it!
