Cinderella or Not?

We all know the story of Cinderella. We also know the story of Mayella Violet Ewell. The two are nothing like. Cinderella is a princess, beautiful, and she is well behaved. Now, Mayella is the complete opposite. Mayella is "a thick-bodied girl accustomed to strenuous labor"(179). She is not well behaved, she is does not bathe regularly, she is not that pretty, and she is not even a princess. Even though the two stories are completely different in a way they are kind of the same. They both work in the household, they do not get respect, and they are both scared of something. Cinderella is afraid of her wicked step-mother and Mayella is afraid of Tom, or is she? In Chapter 19 we hear Tom's version of the story. Is Tom, Mayella's, Prince Charming or did he actually harm her? Also, will Mayella get her wish that Tom will be killed like Cinderella got her wish of being a Princess?

I think that Tom is made out to be a well-mannered guy. Being nice to people and helping every out is how he was brought up to be. I don't think she will get her wish because there is no medical evidence, and as long as the people of Maycomb know the real Tom, then they'd know he wouldn't do something like that.

I agree with super spy! I don't think that she will get her wish! I don't think that Tom will die! I think that Tom is an innocent black man who just got tried because of the color of his skin! His true friends know him for who he really is! Everyone else is just being racist and trying to satisfy their own beliefs eventhough the probably know that Tom is innocent.

I don't think she is afraid of Tom. I think the person who she actually is afraid of is her father. I think that her father is the one that is hurting her and he is making her testify against Tom. Because she is afraid of what her father might do to her, she testifies against Tom. The real bad guy in this is her father, not Tom, I think.

I think that Tom will die in the book because if you think about how many people in Maycomb think that he is guilty and want him dead then you know he will die. The goverment will either kill him or the people of Maycomb will because of the time and how may people think that he is guilty. I do agree that the real bad guy here is Mr. Ewell. He is not very nice!!!

Mayella and Cinderella are very much alike and this was a very intuitive connection made by Barbie girl. They are both treated very poorly, and they don't get the attention they deserve. They both work hard in the house with no award too. Tom did not hurt her, the proof and the evidence, with the contradicting stories of the Ewells prove he is innocent. Tom should not die because of the death penalty in a court of law, but some stinking scallywag of a racist may get him.

Mayella ain't afraid of Tom!!! She's afraid of Bob Ewell .. her pop. and Tom has to die to prove the theme of the novel, "To Kill a MOckingbird" the name of the novel itself foreshadows his death!!! Tom symbolises the innocent mockingbird (who is then killed)!
He may not be killed by the law, but he IS killed .. has to be.
