Black Racists~ Do they judge whites too?

All of this racism talk got me to thinking, are colored people just as judgemental as whites are, and does it give them the right to treat whites badly? In chapter 12, Calpernia brings the kids to her church because she doesn't think it is a good idea to bring them to their church without a teacher present. Upon entering her church a colored lady named Lula asked in a rude tone, "I wants to know why you bringin' white chillun to a nigger church (119)." This is kind of different then what I am used to hearing. It is normally the other way around. Is it possible that there are black racists out there being more judgemental and rude than whites are? If it isn't ok for whites to do it, why should it be ok for them to do it?

Good point. I think it is possible that colored people can have the same tendencies to be judgmental about white people just as white people can be judgmental about colored people. I think the reason we aren’t used to hearing about black racisms is because white racism has gotten more attention because of all the awful events in history that have occurred due to racism. None of these tragic events can be forgotten and they can’t be justified. But it doesn’t make it any more right for colored people to be racist against whites and it doesn’t give them any good reason. So no, I don’t think it is ok for them to be rude or judgmental.

Racsism is just a concentrated and focused form of hat. Everyone hates something so its only natural and fair that some "colored" people would hate white people. Seriously look at what we have done to them in the past, but that still never makes it alright to hate someone because of a few differences. Although a certain amount of hate could be a good thing, i mean if white people hated colored people a little more then we would not have all of those stupid fake gangsters walking around making people want to punch them in the face. And on sort of the same topic, why has there been developments such as these? some people might think it is good that people are getting along and accepting parts of one anothers culture but seriously, you cant understand anyhting they say. Well, that was my little rant about stupid gangsters.......

"I'm a gangster, I'm a straight up "G", the gangster life is the life fo me" Okay, enough of that...

But anyway, I don't think that there is as much emphasis in society on rasicm torwards white people. I mean think about it, all throughout history, We (whites) have been the bad people. I'm mean seriously, did we really have to pick on them and force them into slavery? That wasn't very nice of us. So naturally because of some of the actions like these ^ , we are going to seem more racist. Does that make any sense at all?
Even though I understand why we are considered racist more often, I agree with Miley in that it doesn't make it right for them to act badly towards us. For that matter, it isn't right for anyone to be rude or judgmental torwards anyone. No matter their race, ablities, or religion. Unfortunatly this problem (racism in society) may never be fixed, but who knows what the future has in store....

I think the African American population has gone through so many hardships that everyone should see why they might have retained some contempt for the whites. At that time the resentment of the whites was totally understandable and justifiable judging by the fact the whites persecuted them for no reason whatsoever.

Black people are absolutly just as racist as whites. The fact of today is thats it is considered cool to be "black". Think about all of the rap songs you have heard. Fact is 90% of them make fun of or flat out insult white poeple. Racism against whites is much more mainstream because for some reason it is ok to insult whites for what our ancestors did. Imagine if a black man were to walk into a crowded building raised his fist and shout "black power!" A roaring applause would more than likely come from the building. Now imagine a white man walking into the same building and shouting "white power!" This man would probably be beaten to near death by the crowed even if the crowed was made up of entirely of white people. Also the fight for equal rights has become a fight for special rights. A certain percentage of every construction crew must be black. A certain percentage of every company and fedral office must female. This doesn't seem like equal to me. Shouldent the best qualified person get the job? Now there are many scholorships that are offered specificly to women and black people. Whens the last time you saw a scholarship specific to white males? Also think about how many music videos and comics have said horrible things about white poeple. This never makes the news, but when a white celebraty says something that could possibly lead someone to think a racist thought the media flips out and the story is on every news channel. I am by no means defending racists, the hatered of oithers based on color, religion, or other such factors is wrong and should never be condoned. I am simply asking if whites have to be sensitive about race should't blacks also have to be race sensitve? Should whites in general still be paying for a mistake their generation did not even commit? Until the mistakes of the past can be put behind us racism will always be around.

Of course there are black racists and well as white. Some people are just raised to believe that their race is the superior one. I don't think that it is justified for black people to be racist towards whites, but it is understandable. Whites were never exactly kind to blacks in the past and it is natural for blacks to develop a resentment towards the whites, who have generally had it easier that other races.

Stephen colbert: Ok, I know this is my post, but I read your comment and I agree with you 100%. If you really think about it, that is what our society is all about now. Just wanted to let you know that! Well said!

I would agree that there are blacks who are just as or more racist than some whites but i don't think that chapter proves it. I don't think it proves that at all actually because if you read on in chapter 12 Lula was the only black person in that crowd who said any sort of rude comment toward whites at all. All of the others were extrmely welcoming and pleased to have Scout and Jem at the church.

Of course. Everyone criticizes everyone, and it's because of their looks and their way of acting. But, that doesn't mean it should be a natural habit of us. It isn't good for anyone to put anyone else down when everyone is made equally.

Hmm...I think that African Americans were judged first and they were the ones who didn't understand what they did to be treated differently and whatnot. I think that over time they start to judge whites in order to answer questions of their children or whomever is asking why they are treated and judged because of their appearence. When African Americans are called names and forced to do hard labor or cursed at for having thier own opinions what else are they supposed to think besides that whites are judgmental and rude and complete jerks and etc. so of course they can be judgemental, but as far as racist goes, there may be some AA that are racist, but the majority of them try to improve the situation rather than make it worse in my opinion. thank you for your time. good day.
