Black Racists~ Do they judge whites too?

All of this racism talk got me to thinking, are colored people just as judgemental as whites are, and does it give them the right to treat whites badly? In chapter 12, Calpernia brings the kids to her church because she doesn't think it is a good idea to bring them to their church without a teacher present. Upon entering her church a colored lady named Lula asked in a rude tone, "I wants to know why you bringin' white chillun to a nigger church (119)." This is kind of different then what I am used to hearing. It is normally the other way around. Is it possible that there are black racists out there being more judgemental and rude than whites are? If it isn't ok for whites to do it, why should it be ok for them to do it?

Good point. I think it is possible that colored people can have the same tendencies to be judgmental about white people just as white people can be judgmental about colored people. I think the reason we aren’t used to hearing about black racisms is because white racism has gotten more attention because of all the awful events in history that have occurred due to racism. None of these tragic events can be forgotten and they can’t be justified. But it doesn’t make it any more right for colored people to be racist against whites and it doesn’t give them any good reason. So no, I don’t think it is ok for them to be rude or judgmental.

Racsism is just a concentrated and focused form of hat. Everyone hates something so its only natural and fair that some "colored" people would hate white people. Seriously look at what we have done to them in the past, but that still never makes it alright to hate someone because of a few differences. Although a certain amount of hate could be a good thing, i mean if white people hated colored people a little more then we would not have all of those stupid fake gangsters walking around making people want to punch them in the face. And on sort of the same topic, why has there been developments such as these? some people might think it is good that people are getting along and accepting parts of one anothers culture but seriously, you cant understand anyhting they say. Well, that was my little rant about stupid gangsters.......

"I'm a gangster, I'm a straight up "G", the gangster life is the life fo me" Okay, enough of that...

But anyway, I don't think that there is as much emphasis in society on rasicm torwards white people. I mean think about it, all throughout history, We (whites) have been the bad people. I'm mean seriously, did we really have to pick on them and force them into slavery? That wasn't very nice of us. So naturally because of some of the actions like these ^ , we are going to seem more racist. Does that make any sense at all?
Even though I understand why we are considered racist more often, I agree with Miley in that it doesn't make it right for them to act badly towards us. For that matter, it isn't right for anyone to be rude or judgmental torwards anyone. No matter their race, ablities, or religion. Unfortunatly this problem (racism in society) may never be fixed, but who knows what the future has in store....

I think the African American population has gone through so many hardships that everyone should see why they might have retained some contempt for the whites. At that time the resentment of the whites was totally understandable and justifiable judging by the fact the whites persecuted them for no reason whatsoever.

Stephen colbert: Ok, I know this is my post, but I read your comment and I agree with you 100%. If you really think about it, that is what our society is all about now. Just wanted to let you know that! Well said!

I would agree that there are blacks who are just as or more racist than some whites but i don't think that chapter proves it. I don't think it proves that at all actually because if you read on in chapter 12 Lula was the only black person in that crowd who said any sort of rude comment toward whites at all. All of the others were extrmely welcoming and pleased to have Scout and Jem at the church.

Of course. Everyone criticizes everyone, and it's because of their looks and their way of acting. But, that doesn't mean it should be a natural habit of us. It isn't good for anyone to put anyone else down when everyone is made equally.
