Football Anyone???

"He went out for football, but was too slender and too young yet to do anything but carry the team water buckets. This he did with enthusiasm; most afternoons he was seldom home before dark." Page 242

Ok, so we all know that Jem is trying out for the football team, and we all know that he does not make it, so he is just the water boy. If Jem made the football team, would are picture of Jem change and would the book change? Though, since he was "too slender and too young", would he kept trying out or just be the water boy? Also, if he did play, would he be amazing or just another player?

I think the book would be slightly different if Jem had made the football team. The "picture" of Jem would change because he would seem more confident, outgoing, masculine and tougher than he used to look. I think Scout and Jems relationship would change because Jem would probably be spending less time with her and more playing football or hanging out with his friends from football. And I dont think Jem would be an outstandting player if he did make it, probably just another player.

I don't think my view of Jem would change that much because it seems like in the book and especially in the movie Jem is always running around, going under fences, and climing on who knows what. I think that makes him seem athletic; like somebody that would play football. I also think he would probably be a good one. It just seems like Jem is jone of those people that is good at almost everything he does.

Wow..that was confusing to read...I don't think the story would change. I was going to say that Jem would feeel much more mature and superior to Scout than he used to too, but he already does. That is why I don't beleive it would change much.

I don't think Jem has much of a chance to make the high school football team being that he is in 7th grade. Jem needs to hit the 'roids, and start pumping some iron in his free time so he can bulk up and be a force on the field. He will not be a good football player if his little sister is still big enough to lay a beatdown on him.

exactly. i think jem needs to spend a bit of time with turner, his mom, and coach martin to beef and become a man. turner's mom will whip him into shape in a second. jem won't know what hit him. i think this is the only way for jem to make the football team.

I think that if Jem had made made it he would have put all his effort into it. I think he definitely could have turned out to be an ok football player.

I think that the book would be different cause it would break up Jem and Scout's relationship. It would also change my view of Jem i always imagined him as the unathletic type but football would have shown he was athletic. I don't think he would have been a force on the field just another one of the guys.
