I think that whenever you are reading you like to envision what it is that you are reading to grasp it better. I think that you probably just got an image in your head of what you thought Scout should look like based on her personality but that the movie showed what was actually the case.
Scout is clearly portrayed as a tomboy in the book, and I don't think it would be right for her to have a pretty little girl's hair. The bowl cut and overalls suit her because they show she just wants to be a kid and have fun, she is not ready to be a perfect southern lady.
I agree with Tourettsguy. I liked the way Scout was portrayed in the movie. It was exactly as how I had pictured her: a tomboy, with boy-cut hair, overalls, a real whiny southern accent, cute, but with an attitude. I also liked the way Jem was portrayed with his tousled hair, southern accent, and stubborness. I think the producers did a good job picking their characters.
I think that they got most of her image right but I pictured her with short dirty blonde hair, not dark hair. Also, I thought that Miss Maudie should have been a little older-looking.
I think everyone imagines her in different ways, and the way potrayed in the movie is the director's opinion.
I really did think that Scout would look different then she did in the movie. In the book it says that Scout had bangs in her hair, but it doesn't say much else! In the movie, Scout may have had brown hair because her brother, Jem, had brown hair. Maybe they assume it to be genetic. I really couldn't find a description of her in the book! Did anyone else?
It's a good thing that the book and the movie is somewhat different. We should know by now that our imagery we have while reading the book is probably not going to be what we expect it to be. The tomboy look suits Scout perfectly in the book.
I think that Scout was portrayed well in the movie. I did not picture her as having pigtails because she is described as such a tomboy in the book. I think it is neat how we all come up with different images in our head while reading the story. Some people interrpret things differently than others so we all get different images. Because of this, the director of the film could have pictured Scout in a totally different way than you did. Over all, I really liked Scout in the movie.
Actually Scout in the movie was pretty close to how I pictured her. In the movie she is everything that they described her as. She had her overalls, she was tomboyish, talked like she did in the book, and interacted with the other people in the movie just like she did in the book. They didn't, however, tell what her hair was like but that is part of what reading is about and drawing your own conclusions. I could see how it's in a way disappointing to see a character in a movie that looks totally different then how you picture it. It is kind of similar to the differences in how i pictured Dill but I guess that's how it goes and is what makes the movie interesting .
