Mr. Raymond--Jack Black
I think that Mr. Raymond is a lot like Hal in Shallow Hal. Mr. Raymond is a unprejudiced man living in a world where prejudice is the way of life. He sees that the black people are good people, even though they are different colors. Hal sees that on the inside, a woman considered unattractive is a beautiful person. However, I think it is wrong for Mr. Raymond to try to convince others his actions are caused by alcohol, instead he should try to show people that anyone can be a good person, regardless of their color.

This is a great comparison because its so true!!! Shallow Hal is exactly like Mr. Raymond, and the way they both see the best in people no matter what they are like is a good thing, not something for the society to look down upon.Mr. Raymond should stop portraying himself as a crazy drunk that can't help but do things wrong, but he should show the town that he actually loves the life he has with a colored family.
I agree with the post and Han Solo, but you have to understand, people that would hang around with black people like that in the 1930's were shunned. I mean, look how quickly they pointed their fingers at Atticus after he took the case. They came to beat him up!! I think that in a few years Maycomb will change their views on black people and Mr. Raymond can come out and tell people what he thinks. Look at Aunt Alexandra, she thought black people were dirt, but as you were reading the book, you can teel that she was changing her views. She actually got really sad when Tom died. I that isn't compassion I don't know what is.
Great comparison, I think that Mr. Raymond is a guy who is trying to cover his back. He knows how people will perceive him if he says that he has no excuse. I think that the town is starting to come around though, you can see this with Aunt Alexandria.
I definitely agree! it is not fair that he convinces the town that his actions are caused by alcohol. But, for the record, i have never seen the movie Shallow Hal, but i will say that i think that mr. Raymond is the exact opposite of Atticus. Instead of sticking up for what he believes is right, he's a coward and hides the "real him." I think that he's lame, and if i were his wife, i would've left him like five years ago. He should be ashamed of himself. And as Peter Pan would say, Mr. Raymond is a codfish!
