Mother?

I know that Scout and Jems mother died when they were younger but how do you think there lives and the story would be different if she was around? Also what do you think she would be like? By the way here is an interesting fact: Being unmarried can shorten a man's life by ten years.

I think Scout would probably be a little more in touch with her feminine side. Other than that, I don't think things would change dramatically. That unmarried man fact makes me think,"HA!". That's all.

I agree with Carl! Scout would probably be just a tad bit more feminine, than she is now! Maybe she would actually get excited to wear a cute spring dress. I know this is irrelevant but Charlotte Rousse is selling really cute spring dresses right now! Maybe if that store existed back in the 1930's she would have shopped at it! You never know! Anyways back to the blog. I think she would have definately been different than she is now! I mean everything changes when a daughter has a mother to talk to! She would probably talk to her Mom a lot more than her Dad now, just because daughters and moms usually have a different type of connection than daughters and fathers. I also think she would still be amazingly smart in school, just like she is now! I definately don't think that would have changed if her mother was still alive. I guess we will never know what Scout would have been like if she had a mother, but I am guessing she would have been quite a bit different, especially if she was more girly!

I think their lives would have been quite significantly different if their mother had been a part of Scout and Jem’s lives throughout their childhood. Also I think that Atticus’s life would have been greatly different and might have some effect on the way his character changes. To agree with everyone else, I think that Scout would have grown up to be more lady-like just because she would have a female figure to look up to. Their mother probably wouldn’t have allowed some of the behaviors of Scout and Jem, and most likely would have had more discipline making them overall a little more respectful and more open to helpful criticism. I also believe that if she had stayed around things would have been easier for Atticus, and he would have been able to deal with his work and everything that went along with it and let her keep the family together. So yes, I think that overall their lives would have all been greatly impacted and in many ways different.

I agree with Emily, Scout would probably be more feminine and have better manners. Atticus' life would also be very different. I think he would be working less because he wouldnt have to provide for the kids so much with a mother being around to help out. Atticus would probably act happier around his family. HE would also most likely be less stressed out because of work because he would be able to share his feelings and burdens with his wife and they could talk about everything togather, if he did that with a friend or somthing they would probably just think he was complaining. If Atticus was less stressed i think he would act younger too and be able to have more free time to go fishing with Scout or play football with Jem.

I think that Scout would be more girly, because she would have a motherly figure in her life. She would set an example. And I think you are the only person who would know that fact... haha
