Atticus- Genius in the Courtroom
When I read chapters 18-19, it really woke me up to what Atticus can do. In the beginning of the book, Atticus kind of seemed like a background character. He didn't really talk or show us what he was really capable of doing, but after reading these chapters, WOW! He really shone through in this case. His questions might seem small and petty, but they really do seem to prove a point. He really knows how to question someone and make them feel insecure. At the rate Atticus is going, do you think Tom will win this case? In my opinion, I think it will have the same results as the Scarsboro case. He may be on the verge of winning, but he will probably go crazy or kill himself. What do you think?

Are you asking as to wheather or not Atticus will go and kill himslef because that is a big NO. I mean the guy will not go kill himslef over one case. He has Scout and Jem to think about and Atticus does not seem like the type of person to go commite sucide. If you are talking about Tom then the answer is still no because he has a wife and like five kids. Tom seems to be a fighter so he would not give up that easily. If this case was happening today Atticus would definatly win. He is a law genius and would be a higly paid lawyer in today's world.
I agree that the court room scene shows how much power Atticus has. Before this scene you don't see this in him. It shows why he is a layer.
I like how the Author held back on revealing what Atticus could really do until this point in the story. Up until now we as readers respected Atticus, but did not see him as this strong of a character. I think that it is cool how Harper Lee lets us learn about Atticus little by little. First it was about how he was a great shot, now it is how he acts in court. I wonder what else Harper has in store for us....
Atticus is an impressive force in the court room, but he doesn't stoop to the levels some lawyers reach in doing their jobs. He actually maintains all courtesies he would for family to lowlifes like the Ewells. Atticus reveals how smart and clever he is after the court proceedings, and the already high respect we had for him is reinforced. As for the question of either Tom or Atticus killing themselves, what are you thinking!? Neither one of these people will kill themselves. This idea is, is blasphemous.
