Atticus! Atticus! Barely Even Human!

Atticus displays many qualities that are very hard for most humans to grasp. It is our human nature to get hot-headed whenever something does not go our way. He, on the other hand, stays calm through out the whole trial. What do you think? Could you stay calm if something this disappointing happened to you?

I agree with you princess Jasmine. Also, this is a very good comparison. I like it. Many people would get mad, frustrated, or upset if they had to go through what Atticus had to go through. Atticus is a very wise man and his strong morals set him apart. If only more people could be like Atticus. It would seem like Atticus is Barley even human, just because not many humans do what he does. I guess I am trying to say that we wouldn't have to say, "Atticus! Atticus! Barely Even Human!" if more people would be like Atticus. So lets all try to be more like Atticus and not get mad when things don't go our way.

I agree with homestar_runner. It is Atticus's morals that keep him calm. He knows that he is doing or has done the right thing. When you know that you've done your best and still not succeed, you must be proud of your accomplishments and go on from there. He has no need to get defensive. He is both thoughtful and open-minded. We see that with his discussions regarding Mrs. Dubose and the Cunninhams and many others. He sees good through all the bad and ugly! Yea for Atticus!!!

I agree! Atticus is very intelligent, and he is very good at what he does. I think I would probably be a little upset about the situation if I were in Atticus's shoes (which I'm glad I am not because who knows what his feet smell like), but he is so content with himself, and he knows when he is doing the best he can. I think that's what sets him apart from everyone else. He might even feel this way because he knows he filtered all the evidence and very good points throughout the trial, when Mayella did not have any real evidence to prove Tom guilty. He m knows that he did his best, and the whole reason why Tom was convicted wasn't because of the evidence, but because of the racial issue. Even in the beginning of the trial, he knew that this would almost be impossible to win, but he went out there with confidence and defended, in my opinion, an innocent man with the best of his abilities. He achieved what he went there to do, and that was to get all the real evidence and the true story out, no matter what people ended up believing. That is why I think he is happy with the outcome, even though it didn't go the way he might have wanted it too.

I dont think I could keep calm in the situations that Atticus had to go through. I think Atticus wants to keep calm so he doesnt ruin his reputation and so his kids understand how to act in situations like that, especially Scout. Another situation Atticus had to stay calm for was when Bob Ewell spit in his face and called him horrible names. I would never be able to stay calm and say "im to old to fight" like Atticus said. He is a very modest man who only wants what is right and is a very respectable character.

To me Atticus is someone that everyone should try to be more like. He has so many qualities that could make him a somewhat of a hero figure. I loke how he handles his children, and they respect him for what he does. Atticus keeps his temper down when most people couldn't, and he shows things that say that he cares about everyone, not just whomever he will benefit from.

I don't think I could stay calm like Atticus, but I do seem to surprise myself most of the time. Atticus is a good man and for that he is recognized for this and I am glad.

I don't think that any of us could stay calm after what Atticus has gone through. Being spit at in the face and called horrible names who wouldn't be ready to fight after that. I think that people should be more like Atticus he is a wonderful person and we could all be a little more like him.

Okay, so everyone agrees. Atticus has a slow temper, and a patient heart. Personally, I am able to keep my anger to myself, but there will come a day where I just can't take it anymore, and set my anger on someone else. It's a terrible habit, but we all learn to grow out of it.

People like Atticus have appeared through history. This people such as Ghandi are able to stare anger and hate in the face and turn away. In my opinion this is the hardest human trait to acquire.
